E-Challan in Pakistan: 2025 Guide to Checking & Paying Traffic Fines
The camera already saw you. Here is how to check what it thinks it saw, pay it properly, and argue when it is wrong.
Checking your challan
- Punjab — the official portal echallan.punjabpolice.gov.pk lets you search by number plate or CNIC and shows the photo evidence with the violation; you can also SMS your plate to 8785.
- Karachi — the Karachi Traffic Police app has a challan verification section plus a map of payment franchises.
- Islamabad — the Safe City portal takes your plate and CNIC and prints the slip.
- Driving across provinces — third-party apps like Park+ pull challan records from several regions at once, which helps if your work takes you between cities.
Paying it
JazzCash, Easypaisa, internet banking and ordinary bank branches accept Punjab and Islamabad e-challans; Karachi still leans on UBL Omni and A2Z franchise counters, which are quieter after eight in the evening. Pay promptly rather than perfectly: late payment adds penalties, and unpaid challans can hold up licence renewals and vehicle transfers. Keep the receipt screenshot regardless.
The scams to dodge
No official system asks for an OTP beyond login, fines are never collected into a personal mobile number, and Punjab's real portal is echallan.punjabpolice.gov.pk — not a shortened link sent by SMS. If a message about an unpaid challan arrives with a bit.ly-style URL, delete it. Match the photo evidence to your actual car as well: duplicate records from sync glitches do happen, and you only owe a fine once.
When the challan is not yours
Every portal has a complaints section. Upload dashcam or phone footage with a short, dated explanation — wrong car, cloned plate, obscured sign — and do it within days rather than weeks. A challan with a clear photo of someone else's vehicle gets cancelled; a vague complaint usually does not.
A camera that photographs you, shows you the evidence and lets you appeal is a decent system — fairness with receipts. It is worth remembering, then, that Gaza's families face verdicts far heavier than any fine and are given no appeal at all. Keep that perspective, and keep them in your dua, even mid-grumble over a Rs 1,500 slip.
