A middle-class Pakistani wedding in 2026 — barat plus walima, 300 to 500 guests — runs Rs 1.5-4 million before the gold; the elite tier starts at Rs 15 million. Neither number should scare you; both should open a spreadsheet. The shaadi is a project, not a Pinterest board.

Functions and venues
The mehndi sets the tone: hall Rs 200-400K, flowers Rs 100-300K, DJ and lights Rs 50-150K, qawwali Rs 80-200K. The barat is the centrepiece — venue Rs 300K-3M by tier, dinner Rs 1,500-8,000 per head — and the walima is the biggest headcount.
Venue math, flagship first: PC, Marriott and Serena run Rs 1.5-3M per function; Faletti's, Avari, Gymkhana and Royal Palm sit in the Rs 1-2.5M band; DHA clubs and F-9 halls run Rs 200-800K.
Farmhouses on Bedian, Super Highway or Margalla Road ask Rs 300-800K with a noise curfew. Catering is often 40 to 50 percent of everything: Rs 1,000-1,500 per head for one dish plus naan, Rs 2,000-3,500 for three to four dishes, Rs 4,000-6,000 with live counters, Rs 7,000-15,000 at hotels.

Makeup: Maha, Natasha, Sabs at Rs 150-300K; Depilex and Allenora Rs 80-150K; pay for the trial. Gold sits near Rs 230,000 per tola, so a five to ten tola set means Rs 1.2-2.4M with making charges — buy in instalments and lock the rate.
Hidden costs and the one-dish law
Security, generator, valet, the late-night surcharge and the staff kharchi each run Rs 25-100K. Add a quarter on top of every headline number as buffer; first-timers learn this loudly.
Punjab's wedding-functions restriction means one dish per function and a 10 PM barat curfew, with fines of Rs 50-100K. Caterers now sell compliant one-premium-dish menus; book the barat for 7 PM and serve by 9:30.
Karachi has no equivalent law — the neighbourhood enforces its own 1 AM.
Where the money is actually saved
Off-season dates — January to mid-March, Ramadan — knock a fifth to a third off venues and vendors. Weekday weddings shave a similar slice, and combining mayun with mehndi halves the venue bill.
The guest list is the biggest lever: every guest costs Rs 5-15K all-in, so 200 names instead of 500 is the difference of an entire tier.
