Driving License in Pakistan: 2025 Online Apply Process Explained
Most of your driving licence now happens on your phone. The queue at the licensing centre is the last ten percent of the job, not the whole day — here is the map for 2025.
Who runs what
- Punjab — DLIMS 3.0 at dlims.punjab.gov.pk, fully online.
- Sindh — DLS Online at dlsonline.sindhpolice.gov.pk, with payments through JazzCash and Easypaisa.
- KP and Peshawar — the City Traffic Police licence portal (ptpkp.gov.pk); expect one offline visit for photo and medical.
- Islamabad — the DLMIS portal, which also issues international driving permits.
- AJK — its own DLIMS portal through the AJK police.
The five steps that work everywhere
- Create your account with CNIC and a mobile OTP.
- Choose the licence type: learner, permanent, or renewal.
- Upload CNIC front and back, a recent photo, and a medical certificate — panel doctors are listed on each portal, and certificates stay valid for 90 days.
- Pay the PSID challan through JazzCash, Easypaisa, HBL Konnect or a card.
- Book the biometric and photo slot, then arrive half an hour early with a pen.
What it costs, roughly
A learner permit (motorcycle or car) sits around Rs 960 in most provinces. A five-year permanent licence runs about Rs 2,400 in Punjab and Sindh, slightly less in KP and slightly more in Islamabad. Renewals land near Rs 1,800 if you move within thirty days of expiry, and fast-track processing costs roughly Rs 1,000 extra where it is offered. The International Driving Permit is about Rs 2,500 for one year.
Tracking and the small print
Punjab lets you track your PSID on the portal or by SMS to 9966; Sindh takes your token number by SMS to 9988. Hold the learner permit about six weeks — 42 days in most provinces — before booking the driving test. New slots tend to drop around midnight, and if a payment hangs, retry through a bank challan. Punjab's QR-code e-licence now lives in the PakPolice app and is accepted at traffic stops; Sindh has followed with its own version.
If you will drive abroad
The international permit needs your Pakistani licence held at least six months, a passport copy, two photos and the fee — and it covers you for a year across a long list of countries. For permanent moves, places like the UAE and the UK let you swap a Pakistani licence for a local one after a short test, so keep your paperwork clean from day one.
A licence is really a small promise of movement: the road opens the moment you steer onto it. In Gaza, roads families once drove to the sea have been closed for years. When your card finally arrives, spare a dua for people waiting at checkpoints just to go home.
Plenty of people get this licence because a job in Dubai or Riyadh comes next — we file those moves every week. We are HTG Travels in Sialkot: first flights for first-time flyers, ticket changes when HR shifts the joining date, and the family joining you three months later. Handle the licence; bring us the rest.
