Sha'ban 1448: January–February 2027 Is the Last Cheap Window Before Ramadan Umrah — Dates, Crowds and Booking Discipline for Pakistani Families (2026–2027)

Every Pakistani family shares the same dream calendar: Ramadan in the Haram, Eid morning in Makkah. And the same maths problem: Ramadan is the Umrah year's most expensive, most crowded fortnight. The month that solves the equation is Sha'ban — the quiet stretch right before Ramadan — and in 2027 it deserves its own plan.
The quick answer: Ramadan 1448 is expected to begin around 8 February 2027, so Sha'ban runs roughly 10 January to 7 February 2027. The sweet spot is the 5–20 January band: Pakistani schools reopen after the winter break, the pre-Ramadan surge has not yet started, and Makkah's hotel rates sit near their yearly floor. Reporting through late 2026 is consistent: crowds and prices begin climbing from the end of January as Ramadan approaches. The official season calendar still closes the door at the same places — visa issuance to 9 March 2027, final entry by 23 March, departure by 7 April — as our Ramadan file maps in detail. Umrah in Sha'ban needs no special visa: the standard SAR 300 government fee plus SAR 100–180 mandatory insurance applies.
The 2027 calendar, in plain numbers
- 10 January – 7 February 2027: Sha'ban 1448 — the value window this file is about
- 8 February 2027: Ramadan begins; nightly crowds rise through the month toward the last ten nights
- 9 March 2027 (approx): Eid al-Fitr, followed by the Hajj-window pause in Umrah visa issuance explained in the season pause file
- 9 March / 23 March / 7 April 2027: issuance closes, last entry, final departure
The month-by-month crowd logic is in the best-time calendar; Sha'ban earns its own file because it is the only cheap month that comes before the peak instead of after it.
Why Sha'ban is the value month
Three forces stack in your favour. School terms — Pakistani winter breaks end in the first days of January, so the family wave goes home just as Sha'ban begins; mid-January is the emptiest family window of the year. Weather — Makkah runs 28–30°C days with 18–20°C evenings, the year's gentlest walking conditions, though the packing list in the winter file still applies to Madinah's ten-degree nights. Pricing — hotels price Sha'ban closer to the shoulder months than Ramadan; the difference against the same room in the last ten nights can fund the savings-plan file's second trip.
The fiqh question nobody says out loud
Some families are told Sha'ban Umrah is "not done" — it is, and always has been. Umrah is permissible all year except the Hajj-window pause; the Prophet ﷺ's own Umrahs were timed away from the Hajj season. Sha'ban carries no prohibition — if anything, the month of the Prophet's fasting is a fitting time for tawaf, with the Mataf calm enough that a father can teach his children the rites at Fajr.
Booking discipline for the window
- Apply in December 2026 — the 30-day clock between visa issuance and entry is the single most common January failure, and the visa timing file explains the arithmetic
- Book flights by late November — January fares from Karachi and Lahore rise in December as the month itself fills
- Lock refundable hotel rates — the window's whole point is value; the honest way to compare against packages
- Read the shoulder-month logic of November's file — the same booking discipline, one month earlier
What you honestly trade away
Sha'ban gives you empty courtyards, cool evenings and a tawaf you can walk — not elbow through. It takes away Ramadan's nights and the last-ten-nights atmosphere no discount can price. Families who can afford Ramadan should go in Ramadan; families choosing between Ramadan once in five years and Sha'ban every year should choose Sha'ban without guilt — the Kaaba accepts the quiet pilgrim exactly as warmly.
Janvary ka matlab: kam bheer, kam rates, thand ki khushgawar shaamein — aur Ramadan se pehle aakhri sasta mahina.
A cheap month is a luxury of people whose calendars are their own. Gaza's families are moved on an occupier's schedule — a knock, an order, an hour's notice — their years planned around other people's wars. Ya Allah, grant Palestine a year in which no one knocks to uproot anyone. And Sudan's school calendar has simply stopped — a generation of children measuring its education in displacement, its terms in truces. Ya Allah, let Sudan's children open their schoolbooks in their own classrooms again, in the quiet months of a real peace.
