Saudi Founding Day and National Day for Pakistani Travellers (2026–2027): What Closes, What Crowds and How the Two Holidays Reshape Umrah Planning

Ask a Saudi office what February 22 means and you get one answer; ask a Pakistani travel desk and you often get a blank. Yet these two dates — Founding Day on 22 February and National Day on 23 September — quietly decide hotel prices, permit pressure and paperwork timelines across 2026–2027.

The quick answer: Saudi Arabia keeps only two national holidays, both single-day: Founding Day, remembering Imam Muhammad bin Saud's founding of the First Saudi State at Diriyah in 1727, and National Day, remembering King Abdulaziz's 1932 unification. On those days the Haram never pauses — Umrah, prayers and Nusuk permits run as usual — but government offices, banks and Tasheer visa centres close, domestic Saudi travel surges over the attached weekend, and hotel rates in Riyadh, Jeddah and Diriyah climb. The 2027 wrinkle matters most: Founding Day falls mid-Ramadan — 22 February 2027 sits roughly two weeks into the fasting month — so its travel spike folds into the year's biggest Umrah crowds instead of standing apart.

Two Holidays, Two Very Different Moods

    • Founding Day (22 February) is the heritage holiday: Diriyah's mud-brick walls host festivals, traditional majlis open, heritage parades run — pairing beautifully with the AlUla and Red Sea winter season, which peaks in the same weeks.
    • National Day (23 September) is the modern state's celebration: fireworks, green illuminations, airshows, historically opening the Riyadh Season winter calendar. For 2026 it has just passed — 23 September 2027 lands on a Thursday, which Saudis will bridge into a four-day weekend.

    What Closes, What Never Stops

    Service On the holiday
The two Harams, five daily prayers, Umrah Run completely normally
Nusuk permits (tawaf, Rawdah, ziyarat) Unaffected — book as normal
Banks, money transfers Closed for the day
Tasheer visa centres, government offices Closed for the day
Haramain train, SAPTCO buses Run, busier on holiday weekends
Airport VAT refund counters Open, with longer queues

Two practical consequences matter. Any step that depends on a government counter — Tasheer follow-ups, attestations, the sponsor-side steps in the family visit visa sequence — must be scheduled around the closure. And agent payments routed through Saudi banks stall for the day, so packages straddling the holiday need buffer days.

The Crowd Math for Umrah Travellers

    • 2027's Founding Day (Monday 22 February) arrives mid-Ramadan, when the Ramadan Umrah file already prices hotels at peak — the domestic bump compresses permits further that weekend.
    • National Day 2027 (Thursday 23 September) sits in the quiet Umrah shoulder — the softener being domestic visitors filling Jeddah and Makkah over the bridge, a squeeze the crowds calendar explains month by month.
    • Haram hotel zones price by demand — the hotel zones guide shows which districts absorb holiday-weekend spikes best.
    • Families mixing Umrah with Jeddah or Riyadh leisure should book those nights before the Saudi domestic market does, as the Jeddah day-trip guide families discover every season.

How to Use the Holidays Instead of Fighting Them

    • Paperwork window: lodge every government-dependent step before the holiday week.
    • Events window: National Day weekend brings free fireworks, airshows and heritage displays to Riyadh and Jeddah — real value for families extending a Umrah trip, on the visa category the visa types file matches to the plan.
    • Avoidance window: for a calm Umrah, step around both attached weekends — late February 2027 only if Ramadan crowds permit, and 23–25 September 2027.

Pro tip: Mark 22 February and 23 September on your Umrah planning calendar before anything else — a holiday-weekend hotel mistake costs more than a flight-date mistake.

National days are easy to celebrate when your land is whole. Palestine's calendar carries a Nakba that never ended — villages emptied in 1948 and never refilled, families still counting their keys, the occupation still raising its flag over stolen ground. Ya Allah, give Palestine the anniversary the world owes it: a free dawn with every refugee home. And Sudan's own founding story is being rewritten in exile — its historians displaced, its records burned, its cities fought over by generals and the RSF. Ya Allah, restore Sudan whole, and let its next national day be danced in Khartoum, not mourned across four borders.

Saudi ke donon national holidays — 22 February Founding Day aur 23 September National Day — us din government offices aur Tasheer band rehte hain; Umrah aur permits chalte rehte hain, bas hotel aur paperwork ki planning pehle kar lein.

A holiday-aware itinerary is the difference between watching fireworks and watching a closed counter — dates checked against both calendars, hotels secured before Saudi's domestic market wakes, paperwork lodged before the shutdown. We actually respond — twenty-four hours, no hidden charges, no message left on read — and every client's plan is written down, holiday closures included. HTG Travels — WhatsApp +92 317 5054959.

The Hajj Window (2026–2027): When Umrah Season Pauses, What Happens to Eid al-Adha in Makkah, and How the Adahi Sacrifice System Actually Works

Umrah is not a year-round free-for-all — it breathes with an annual rhythm that most Pakistani families discover too late. This calendar file explains the pause: why Umrah visa issuance stops in early March 2027 and every Umrah visa holder is out of the Kingdom by 7 April, two full months before Eid al-Adha; why an Umrah visa can never witness the Hajj days in Makkah; what Eid al-Fitr in the Haram actually offers instead; and the Adahi system behind the sacrifice — the SAR 720 Hady voucher, the 950,000 animals sacrificed within 84 hours, the nine official purchase channels, and how a family in Lahore can still have a qurbani carried out in its name at Eid.
