AlUla and the Red Sea from Pakistan 2026–2027: Saudi Arabia's Other Half, the Visa Route That Fits Your Passport and the Winter Windows

    By Huzi

Pakistani travelers know Saudi Arabia as two cities and a pilgrimage. Two hours' drive from Jeddah, there is a 2,000-year-old Nabataean city carved into sandstone, a mirrored concert hall clinging to a cliff, and a coastline of new island resorts — and almost none of our itineraries include them.

The quick answer: AlUla (Hegra, Elephant Rock, Maraya) is best in the November–February winter window, when Winter at Tantora programming fills the valley with concerts and heritage events; the Red Sea resorts run year-round with adventure passes priced as low as SAR 100 in current offers. The visa is the decision: Pakistani passports aren't on the standard eVisa country list — the eVisa route for us is profile-gated, typically unlocked by a valid, previously-used US, UK or Schengen visa — while everyone else travels on an embassy visit visa arranged through a sponsor, or simply extends an Umrah-valid visa, since Saudi rules let any valid visa holder move beyond the holy cities.

    Why this is the moment

Saudi is building toward the 2034 World Cup, and the visitor infrastructure is arriving ahead of it: the UNESCO-listed Hegra with its 100-plus rock-cut tombs, the mirrored Maraya venue, old-town restoration, and a Red Sea airport serving a string of opened island resorts — Six Senses, St. Regis and the Ritz-Carlton Reserve among them. The crowds haven't caught up yet; the prices eventually will.

    Two destinations, two rhythms

    AlUla The Red Sea
Character Desert heritage, archaeology, stargazing Island resorts, diving, adrenaline parks
Best season Nov–Feb (winter events) Year-round; spring and autumn mildest
Access Fly to AlUla or Jeddah/Medina + road Red Sea airport for select flights, or Jeddah + transfer
Style Boutique lodges, canyon camps Full resort complexes

A week that pairs three AlUla nights with two on the coast is the itinerary most first-timers end up wishing they'd booked.

    The visa, decided honestly

    • Profile-gated eVisa: for Pakistani passports this route depends on your travel history — typically a valid, previously-used UK, US or Schengen visa. The sticker runs about SAR 535 all-in with insurance, one year, multiple entry, 90-day stays.
    • Embassy visit visa: the standard route otherwise — a sponsor-driven file through the Saudi embassy, slower to assemble, right for family visits and longer stays.
    • The Umrah extension: any Umrah-valid visa now lets you travel beyond the holy cities, which is why the smartest Pakistani itinerary is Umrah plus AlUla or the coast in one trip, one visa.

Pro tip: The Umrah-plus-AlUla combination is the cheapest way in — pilgrimage fares and winter events share a season, and one file covers both. Verify current eVisa terms before booking flights; profile rules shift between seasons.

    Building the week

Fly into Jeddah or Medina, take the road or a short domestic hop to the AlUla valley, spend the days between Elephant Rock at golden hour, Hegra with a licensed guide, and Maraya's calendar — then either loop back for Red Sea resort days or fly out of the coast. Winter nights in the desert drop to genuinely cold; pack for two climates.

What the week honestly costs — the structure, since prices move with the season:

    Line The honest range
Visa (profile-gated eVisa) ~SAR 535 all-in with insurance, when your passport qualifies
Umrah-plus-AlUla itinerary One visa, one trip, pilgrimage fares shared across both halves
AlUla stays Desert camps price above town hotels; events-season books out first
Hegra & park entries Day passes bought official — resellers are the classic scam
Domestic hops AlUla flights beat the Jeddah road on time, not always on price

The winter calendar at HTG Travels is what keeps this budget honest — which events are running, which dates still have rooms, and which visa door your passport actually opens this season.

The Saudi desk at HTG Travels runs both halves of this file every winter — the Umrah-plus-extension itinerary, the embassy visit visa with sponsorship arranged, or the profile check that tells you in one message whether the eVisa door is open to your passport. Message +92 317 5054959 and ask for the AlUla winter package before the season's room inventory tightens.

Here's the fact most Pakistani applicants learn too late: China's embassy exempts ordinary Pakistani passports from visa fees entirely — you pay only the visa centre's Rs 13,200 service charge. But the L tourist visa comes with its own rule: Pakistani nationals are asked to join a tourist group of more than 5 people, arranged through a qualified local travel agency. The official COVA process, the bank statement bar, and the Beijing–Shanghai–Xian circuit that makes the group rule feel like a perk.
