Visa Photo Requirements From Pakistan 2026–2027: Schengen 35×45, US 2×2, Saudi 200×200 — the Complete Size Sheet
Ask any Islamabad studio for a "visa photo" and you will get eight identical copies of whatever size the shop had in mind — which is how a good Schengen file ends up holding a rejected photo. It is the first thing an officer sees and the cheapest thing in the file to get exactly right.
The quick answer: there is no universal visa photo — there are desk-specific sizes. The Schengen standard is 35×45 millimetres with the head filling 70–80 percent of the frame on a plain light background. The US wants 2×2 inches (51×51 mm) printed — digital twin 600×600 to 1200×1200 pixels, under 240 KB, head at 50–69 percent of height — and no glasses, firm since November 2016. The UK takes 35×45; the Saudi eVisa uploads at 200×200 pixels, 5–100 KB, white background — with the rest in the sheet below. Every desk wants a photo under six months old, a neutral face, and no shadows on the background — the rule that quietly kills most uploads.
The size sheet
| Application | Print size | Digital rule | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Schengen | 35×45 mm | Scan to the desk's format | Head 70–80% of frame, plain light background — the format every Schengen file from Pakistan feeds on |
| US B1/B2, F-1 | 2×2 in (51×51 mm) | 600×600–1200×1200 px, ≤240 KB | No glasses; head 50–69% of height; carried to the interview |
| UK | 35×45 mm | Digital upload accepted | The UK desk reads photos coldly |
| Saudi eVisa / Nusuk | — | 200×200 px, 5–100 KB | White background, face and top of shoulders, both ears visible |
| Japan | 45×45 mm | Per checklist | Strict and polite about it — the VFS Japan file |
| China | 33×48 mm | — | For the group and L visa route |
| Canada | 50×70 mm | Digital | Head 30–36 mm chin-to-crown |
| Turkey | 50×60 mm | Biometric | Sticker-era standard |
| UAE (Dubai) | 43×55 mm | White background | The Dubai desk usually wants it in the application pack |
The rules that kill uploads
- Shadows on the background — the most common digital rejection; light the face, not the wall
- File size and resolution — a 6 MB portrait is not a compliant upload, and a 200×200 file upscaled from a blurry crop fails; shoot full-size, crop, compress to the KB window
- Face proportion — the head must sit inside each desk's ratio band; too far fails as silently as too close
- The six-month rule — an older photo of a newer face is misrepresentation's cheapest cousin
- Glasses — off for the US and Saudi uploads unless medical; reflections fail even where frames are allowed
Studio jaane se pehle size ka naam le kar jayen — "visa photo" nahi, "Schengen thirty-five by forty-five" ya "US two by two". Woh ek jumla aap ki fees bacha deta hai.
Hijab, caps and beards
The hijab is fully permitted everywhere that matters — Schengen, US, UK, Saudi — on two conditions: full face from chin to forehead, and no shadow from the fabric. Daily religious headwear is fine; fashion headbands and caps are not. Beards are nobody's concern — a photograph is a likeness, not a haircut certificate.
The infant problem, solved
Children, including newborns, need their own photograph in every application — a parent holding the baby is a rejected photo. The US practice that works everywhere: lay the infant on a plain white sheet, shoot from directly above with eyes open where possible, no hands in frame, no bottle props. It takes patience — usually fifteen attempts.
Studio or phone
A modern phone clears every digital bar: plain wall, eye-level helper, arm's-distance-not-selfie framing, even light, no flash — print the compliant crop for desks that want paper. Studios near the VFS, BLS and Gerry's centres know each desk's format — but you still must name the size: "visa photo" is a menu with nine wrong answers. Label the soft copies — schengen-35x45, us-2x2, saudi-200x200 — one set serves the first-trip checklist, the passport renewal and the next three applications.
A visa photograph asks you to prove who you are — Palestinians have spent generations proving, in document after document, that they exist at all. May every Palestinian name outlive the system built to deny it, and may the world finally treat Palestinian existence as fact, not argument. Sudan's war tries to keep the country a single image of ruin — but images lie by freezing moments: Sudan is also the doctor who stayed, the grandmother who still sets an extra plate for the missing, the bakers who kept the ovens warm on credit. Ya Rab, keep the living Sudan in the frame until the war is not.
Photographs start applications; the file behind them is where a real hand earns its place: the pre-check that names every format before you pay a studio, the written document list, answers at any hour. We actually respond — twenty-four hours, no hidden charges, no silence after the fee — no client of ours re-shoots a photo twice. HTG Travels runs that pre-check for every traveller as a person with one file, not a queue number — WhatsApp +92 317 5054959.
