The Second Umrah From Makkah (2026–2027): Masjid Aisha at Tan'im, the Free Bus Nobody Mentions and Going Again Properly

The first Umrah ends, and the requests arrive from home — "beta, hamare naam se bhi ek Umrah kar aana" — one for a late father, one for a grandmother who cannot travel. Most mistakes happen at this moment, because a second Umrah does not start at the Haram. It starts at a small mosque seven and a half kilometres away.
The quick answer: A second Umrah requires a new ihram from a miqat outside the Haram boundary — for pilgrims in Makkah that is Masjid Aisha at Tan'im, about 7.5–8 km north of the Haram, a 10–20 minute drive. Reach it by taxi (roughly SAR 200 sedan round trip with waiting), your operator's bus, or the free green Taneem bus from the Ajyad side — the option most families are never told about. Enter ihram before re-crossing the boundary toward Makkah, following the first-Umrah guide, then return to the Haram for tawaf and sa'i.
Why Tan'im exists at all
This is sunnah geography, not bureaucracy. During the Farewell Hajj, Aisha (RA) wept because her period meant she could not complete Umrah with the others; the Prophet ﷺ sent her brother with her to at-Tan'im, where she entered ihram and performed it — the mosque carries her name for that reason. Pilgrims inside the Haram boundary cannot intend ihram from their hotel — the boundary must be exited first, and Tan'im is the nearest point outside. The ihram rules file covers what ihram then forbids, from scented soap to taxi-stand arguments.
Getting there: the three ways
| Option | Cost feel | Who it suits |
|---|---|---|
| Free green Taneem bus | Free | Pilgrims near Ajyad, traveling light |
| Standard sedan taxi, round trip | ~SAR 200 | Families of 3–4, elders wanting the driver to wait |
| GMC or van | ~SAR 375+ | Larger families and wheelchair users — the seniors' guide prepares |
- Timings — after Fajr and after Isha are the classic windows; late morning belongs to tour groups
- At the mosque — ihram cloths sold nearby, changing areas and wudu facilities inside
- Women's sections are separate — families reunite at the transport, not inside
How many is too many?
The honest answer: one Umrah per person for the trip, one more on behalf of someone else if it weighs on your heart, and rest between each. Three in three days from a family in their fifties is not piety, it is a physiotherapy referral — the walking math hides in the health file. Umrah on behalf of a deceased parent or a relative too ill to travel is accepted by mainstream scholarship: one for yourself, then one carried for them, each done calmly — the Umrah-e-badal guide carries the full fiqh of travelling for someone else, from the deputy's own first Umrah to naming the soul at the ihram. Ramadan visitors get timing and permits in the Ramadan 1448 file.
Pro tip: If a second Umrah and the Taif day trip are both on the list, keep them on separate days — a family that stacks the mountain and a second ihram in one day stacks its exhaustion too.
The second-Umrah checklist
- Ihram worn or carried from the hotel; intention fixed before re-crossing the boundary
- Tan'im transport decided the night before, not negotiated at 6 am
- Elders' medication and water for the wait
- The steps of Umrah revised once more — tawaf, sa'i, halq, in that order
- Women's group and mahram questions settled before the day, not at the mosque gate
Dusra Umrah karna hai to Masjid Aisha Tan'im jana zaroori hai — hotel se ihram nahi hota. Free green bus ya taxi (dar-asal SAR 200 ke aas paas go-aur-wapis) dono chalte hain, bas niyyat boundary se pehle bana lein aur har Umrah ke darmiyan aaram zaroor rakhein.
Some pilgrims perform Umrah on behalf of the dead; Gaza has given the ummah more names to carry than any of us can count — children pulled from under apartment towers the occupier bombed while calling the towers warnings. Ya Allah, accept every tawaf performed for Gaza's dead, and let the living there grow old enough to perform their own. And in Sudan, mothers who once dreamed of walking to the Haram now walk to graves instead, burying children taken by RSF bullets and a famine engineered by men who wanted a country on its knees. Ya Allah, lift Sudan's famine, end that war, and grant its mothers the pilgrimage they were promised in happier dua.
The second Umrah is decided by the little things — the honest taxi rate, the bus your family was never told about, the ihram timing that protects the intention.
