Pakistan Is Now the World's Biggest Umrah Source Country — About 200,000 Pilgrims in Six Weeks: What the 1448 Season's Opening Numbers (931,500 Umrah Visas, Up 22.5 Percent, 1.27 Million International Arrivals) Mean for Your Family's Booking This Winter

    File #948 · 4 min read

Every Umrah season has a league table, and for the opening weeks of 1448 the Ministry of Hajj and Umrah has published it: Pakistan is number one — by roughly thirty thousand pilgrims over Indonesia.

The quick answer: between 15 Dhul Hijjah and the end of Muharram 1448 — the first six weeks of the new season — the Kingdom recorded 931,500 Umrah visa arrivals, up 22.5 percent on the same window last year. More than 1.27 million pilgrims arrived from abroad, and 75 percent of overseas pilgrims entered through airports. The source-country table reads: Pakistan about 200,000, Indonesia 170,000, Iraq 130,000.

    The season's opening sheet

Measure Figure What it tells a family
Umrah visa arrivals, first six weeks 931,500 The visa pipeline is running 22.5% hotter than last season
Total international arrivals 1.27 million+ Includes GCC residents and other entry routes
Airport share 75% Airside capacity is the shared bottleneck
Pakistan's count ~200,000 The single largest national flow
Indonesia / Iraq 170,000 / 130,000 Competing for the same permits and rooms

Read those rows together: the things Pakistani families compete for — permit slots, hotel inventory near the Haram, December and Ramadan airfare — face more compatriot competition this season, inside a calendar whose walls compress demand into fewer weeks.

Why being number one changes your booking

Demand numbers are not trivia; they are pricing. Three effects follow:

    • Permits tighten at the edges. The Nusuk Card system allocates slots by date and time; when more pilgrims hold visas, Friday evenings and the last ten nights of Ramadan fill first.
    • Hotels price the calendar earlier. With Nusuk Masar tying the visa to a confirmed booking reference, well-located mid-tier rooms are picked over weeks earlier than families assume.
    • Corridor depth becomes insurance. The Karachi, Lahore and Islamabad boards carry roughly 190 weekly nonstops between them — seats a bigger queue is also buying.

The GASTAT mirror: January is cheapest and busiest

The General Authority for Statistics' last full quarterly sheet — Q1 2026, 15,233,767 Umrah performers — shows how demand distributes:

    • About 9.46 million were domestic and 5.77 million arrived from outside the Kingdom.
    • Women were 51.9 percent of international performers — a planning fact for families arranging the women's travel rules.
    • 86 percent of international pilgrims flew in; land crossings carried 13.6 percent.
    • January was the biggest external month — 2.24 million performers, 38.8 percent of the quarter.
    • The 55–64 bracket was the largest external age group — the parents' file is the market's centre of gravity.
    • Among domestic pilgrims, 75.4 percent travelled as families.

The honest reading: the month every fare table calls the value trough is also the month the world's pilgrims pick most. The best-time file prices January correctly — but a family booking January 2027 should expect cheaper flights and fuller mataf circuits than the fare column suggests.

The booking discipline the numbers demand

    • Fix the window before the fare. Choose dates against the season walls and the 30-day entry window, then let fare flexibility work inside it.
    • Count nights, not days. The meal voucher prices the trip per night.
    • Respect the fog belt. December's Punjab departures sit inside the winter fog window; a morning buffer is cheaper than a rebooked family.

Pro tip: when a market grows 22.5 percent, the calendar stops forgiving improvisation. Pick the dates, secure the booking reference, and file the visa early — the surge rewards the first file, not the patient one.

Demand ka jawab plan hota hai, dararna nahi. Pakistan is season sab se aage hai — matlab permits, hotels aur December-January tickets pehle khatam honge. Visa nikalwatay hi permit book kijiye, aur January ko sirf sasta na samjhein; bheed bhi usi mahine sab se zyada hai.

A market is measured in pilgrims while Gaza is measured in kilograms of aid Israel lets through a gate it bombs on schedule — the arithmetic of cruelty. Ya Allah, let Palestine's families cross freely again, their counts kept only by joy, and let Sudan's people count a harvest and a ceasefire, markets where flour is priced, not rationed by war.

Being the biggest source country means Pakistani families deserve a desk that knows the season's numbers and what they squeeze. We actually respond, twenty-four hours, no hidden charges, no message left on read; every client gets the season's dates, permit logic and booking order written into their own plan — a family this far from Makkah is never a case number. Your Umrah Contract Now Has a QR Code: The Unified E-Contract of Nusuk Masar 1448 — Four Contract Types, the Booking Reference Number, and the Group Data Rules That Decide Whether Your Family's Visa Clears

For years the Pakistani family's Umrah booking lived in a WhatsApp screenshot — 'confirmed, inshaAllah' — and for years families discovered at Jeddah airport what that screenshot was worth. On 11 May 2026 the Ministry of Hajj and Umrah changed the plumbing: from the 1448 season, every booking between agencies and providers on Nusuk Masar lands as one unified electronic contract, verifiable by QR code. The provider named on that contract is exactly who shifts the booking when dates move — the [date-change file](/posts/umrah-date-change-after-visa-reschedule-guide-2026-2027) explains the sequence. This is the file on what that changes for a family flying from Pakistan. The four contract types — housing with hotel, room type, nights and release dates; transport with airport, Makkah and Madinah routes and coach class; catering with meal plans per hotel; and enrichment, the ziyarah programmes with their sites and days. The verification move every family should now make: ask for the contract, scan the QR, and read what was actually booked before paying the balance. The group data rules that quietly decide most rejections — the passport scan with a sharp machine-readable zone, the name spelled exactly as the passport prints it, date of birth and sex matched, no duplicate passport number inside a season, travel dates inside the programme — and why disciplined operators submit small daily batches instead of weekly dumps. Plus the Booking Reference Number that ties your Nusuk bookings to your visa under the no-booking-no-visa rule, and the red flags that expose an agency running on paper promises.

The Nusuk App's 2026 Rebuild (2026–2027): The AI Guide, the Digital Mutawwif That Counts Your Tawaf, Live Crowd Maps and Electric Cart Booking — What Pakistani Pilgrims Should Install and Learn Before Day One in Makkah

"App download karna zaroori hai kya?" — every family group debates it before every Umrah, and the autumn 2026 answer is a proper yes. This is the app file for the rebuilt Nusuk. The scale first: the platform's own figures now run past 51 million users across 190 countries with more than 130 Hajj and Umrah services inside one login. The new layer that changes the walk itself: the Digital Mutawwif, a guide that knows where you are, counts your Tawaf and Sa'i circuits, and shows the dua for each stage; smart crowd management fed by sensors and cameras around the Grand Mosque; interactive maps that locate you, your campsite and the shortest path to services; an in-app AI religious guide answering in many languages; and electric cart booking for Tawaf and Sa'i directly through the app — quoted around SAR 100 for Tawaf, SAR 100 for Sa'i and SAR 200 combined, with children free — the paid mobility tier between the free disability services and full walking fitness. Underneath, the old rules still govern: one account per pilgrim on a personal mobile number, permits printed as PDFs, and a battery discipline no feature replaces.

The New PIA File (2026–2027): Privatized, Under the Arif Habib Consortium, and Flying Wet-Leased 787-9 Dreamliners Into London Daily — What the Airline's Restart Actually Means for Pakistani Umrah Families This Winter, From the Rs 135 Billion Deal to the Fleet Reality to the Booking Questions That Changed With the Ownership

On 1 November 2026 a Boeing 787-9 landed at Islamabad wearing PIA colours — the first wet-leased Dreamliner of the privatized airline, arriving the same day daily Pakistan–London flights began. This is the new-PIA file for Umrah families: the Arif Habib-led consortium's Rs 135 billion purchase of 75 percent struck at the December 2025 auction, management control formally transferred at the end of June 2026, EASA's restored access behind it, the second Dreamliner now expected 15 December with two more aircraft due in January 2027 and the operational fleet already up to seventeen or eighteen airframes, why the brand name stays while the register changes, what a wet-lease actually is and what it means for your cabin crew, and the booking playbook for a winter in which 'will it fly' has quietly become 'which metal, what connection, at what fare'.

PIA's Birmingham Comeback (1 December 2026): The Midlands' Direct Door to Pakistan Reopens — Three Weekly Boeing 777s to Islamabad, What the Route Means for 320,000 Diaspora Families, the Winter Wedding-Season Demand Curve, and the Umrah Pairing That Makes One Ticket Do Two Jobs

Pakistan International Airlines resumes Birmingham–Islamabad flights on 1 December 2026, operating three times weekly on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays with Boeing 777 wide-bodies — restoring the Midlands' only direct link to Pakistan for a region where roughly 320,000 residents carry Pakistani heritage. This file covers what the route fixes (the Birmingham-to-London crawl for a nonstop), the widebody economics families care about (baggage, bassinets, seat maps), the December-to-January demand spikes around weddings and school breaks, and how Midlands families can fold an Umrah leg into the same journey through Islamabad's Jeddah connections.

The Umrah Season 1448 Calendar for Pakistani Families: Visa Issuance Stops 9 March 2027, Last Entry 23 March, Every Pilgrim Out by 7 April 2027 — the Three Windows Left Before the Walls Close, the Hajj Blackout on the 365-Day Visa, and the June 2027 Reopening

The Umrah season has walls, and the Saudi Hajj Ministry has published the 1448 calendar that defines them: the last Umrah visa of the season is issued on 9 March 2027, the final entry into the Kingdom is 23 March 2027, and every Umrah pilgrim departs by 30 Shawwal — 7 April 2027 — before the Kingdom clears Makkah for Hajj. This file plans backwards from those dates: the three windows Pakistani families still have (the December school holidays, the January value trough, and the Ramadan squeeze from 8 February to 9 March with the Eid al-Fitr week that follows), why a 23 March entry actually needs a visa by late February under the 30-day entry rule, what the closure means for 365-day multiple-entry visa holders whose blackout runs 1 Dhul Qi'dah to 13 Dhul Hijjah, and the June 2027 reopening rush that catches late planners.

The Umrah Invoice File (2026–2027): Reading a Pakistani Family's Package Quotation Line by Line — What Ground Handling, Twin Sharing and Ziyarat Included Actually Mean, Where the Hidden Extras Hide, the Red Flags That End in Complaints, and the Ten Questions Worth Asking Before a Rupee Moves

"Package mein kya included hai?" — the question every Pakistani family asks at the counter, and the answer that usually arrives as one number. This is the invoice file: how to read a Umrah package quotation the way an accountant would, line by line. What the visa layer is actually worth through the operator door (near SAR 300 with insurance of roughly SAR 100–180 on top), what accommodation on a triple-sharing basis really commits you to, why transport written as as-per-schedule means waiting for two other flights' passengers at 2 AM, which costs never appear on the sheet — tipping, laundry, the Zamzam can's airline handling — and the red flags that predict a ruined trip before money moves: unnamed hotels, cash payment, insurance billed twice, permits for things Nusuk issues free. The ten questions that belong in every booking meeting, and the DIY-versus-desk arithmetic finished honestly.
