The Month-Long Umrah Stay (2026–2027): Monthly Apartments in Makkah and Madinah, Self-Catering, and the 90-Day Visa Arithmetic

There are two Umrahs. The first is the fourteen-day package that grazes the Haram and flies home exhausted. The second is the month — the same tawaf at a different tempo, a city known rather than survived. Families who discover the second kind never go back to the first. This is the long-stay file.
The quick answer: A month in Makkah runs on the monthly apartment economy of Kudai, Misfalah and Aziziyah — furnished flats advertised from around SAR 800 a month, extended-stay deals near SAR 95–150 a night — against Haram-front towers that never discount by the month. The visa decides everything: a standard visa's 30-day stay barely fits a month; the one-year visa's 90-day balance, per the multiple-entry visa file, carries a true month with room to spare. Self-catering from Bin Dawood and Panda halves the food budget again.
The monthly map of Makkah
Long-stay Makkah lives in three districts:
- Kudai — closest to the Haram: a 20–25 minute walk for the fit, a 5-minute taxi otherwise, the densest supply of monthly buildings.
- Misfalah — the older, steeper lanes where the cheapest furnished rooms live; not for wheeled suitcases or wobbly knees.
- Aziziyah — residential apartments with kitchenettes and space, 15–20 minutes out; distance traded for dignity of lodging.
Cross-check any listing against the hotel zones guide — "walking distance" in a Makkah advertisement is a genre of fiction. Central Madinah's monthly buildings undercut Makkah's for the same standard; many families split the month between the two cities.
The visa arithmetic that gates the month
- Standard Umrah visa — 30 days total: one month is the whole file, with no slack for a slipped flight or a sick child. Book inside the dates, and read the season calendar so the month never collides with the 7 April 2027 deadline.
- One-year multiple-entry visa — the 90-day cumulative balance: a 30-day month leaves 60 days for the year, and package length can never exceed days remaining.
- Monthly rates quote calendar months, not rolling 30-day blocks — mid-month arrivals often pay a half-month premium. Arrive on the 1st.
The settled month's economy
The month's advantage is mostly kitchen arithmetic:
- Bin Dawood, Panda and Lulu — a family of four eats for SAR 60–90 a day cooked, against SAR 250+ eating out.
- Medicines — a month needs a month's supply: the medicines-to-Saudi rules apply; note the nearest pharmacy on day one.
- Zamzam as routine — the sealed can flies home once, at departure, under the Zamzam airline rules; every other day it is carried from the Haram, free.
Who the month is actually for
Retired parents who deserve the Haram at seniors' pace; families spacing a father's, a mother's and a grandfather's badal across four unhurried weeks; Quran students who want Jumuah after Jumuah; and anyone the solo Umrah guide speaks to — two-week Umrahs end exactly when the heart starts work. Book November or Rabi-ul-Awwal, not Ramadan's premium weeks, and the same riyals buy triple the days.
Pro tip: Negotiate the monthly rate in writing before flying, and ask: is electricity capped (some buildings bill AC separately), and does the district sit inside your permit radius?
Mahine bhar ka qiyam alag hi cheez hai: kitchen wala furnished apartment lein, Bin Dawood se samaan khareedein, namazon ka apna routine banayein — kharcha bhi aadha, ibadat bhi poori.
A month in Makkah is a mercy measured in groceries, laundry and unbroken routine; in Gaza the month is measured by what survives it — its families have now lived entire years inside what was meant to be weeks of displacement, entire winters inside what was meant to be a pause. Ya Allah, let Palestine's long month end in a home with a real address, not another winter in the shelters. And Sudan's displaced would call one safe month anywhere a blessing — millions sleeping in schoolrooms and camp rows while their own kitchens stand looted or ash. Ya Allah, hand Sudan's families back their kitchens, their months and their peace.
A month is the longest test of a travel desk's character — thirty days of permits, pharmacy runs and building disputes needs a line that picks up at every hour. We actually respond — twenty-four hours, no hidden charges, no ignored messages — and our written long-stay plan covers district, visa arithmetic and monthly building before a single riyal is paid.
