Free Online Tools Every Developer Should Know in 2025
The stack I ship client work on costs nothing beyond the internet bill, and that is a recent luxury. This is the strictly-for-developers list — no student discounts, no trial timers, just tools that stay free while you ship.
Editors that think
The free Copilot line inside VS Code — 2,000 completions and 50 chat turns a month — covers a month of honest work without asking for a card. Cursor's free tier spends a limited budget of frontier-model requests; save them for Composer, its multi-file refactor mode. For questions bigger than a function, the free tiers of Claude and Gemini still read whole files and repos.
No installs, no excuses
StackBlitz runs real Node in the browser via WebContainers — a full dev server, cold-started, on a machine with nothing installed. CodeSandbox covers the same ground for React 19 and Next.js 15 prototypes. The payoff is social: send reviewers a live link instead of a 300 MB archive.
The API workbench
Bruno is the open-source, offline-first API client for people who left Postman over the forced cloud sync — collections live as plain files in your repo, reviewable in every pull request. JSONLint validates a mangled payload in seconds, JSON5 included. Regex101 explains your pattern live, capture group by capture group. CyberChef, open-sourced by GCHQ, encodes, decodes, hashes and parses whatever you throw at it.
Deploy without a card
Railway hands out around $5 in monthly credit with one-click deploys from GitHub plus native Postgres and Redis. Render's free web services sleep after idle, which is fine for demos. Cloudflare is the heavyweight: unlimited static requests on Pages, 100,000 Worker invocations a day, free Workers AI inference, and D1 SQLite, KV and 10 GB of R2 behind it — a weekend RAG app on a global edge with a zero at the end of the bill.
Data and GPU
Supabase's free tier is half a gigabyte of Postgres, auth for 50,000 monthly active users, a gigabyte of storage, edge functions in Deno and pgvector for embeddings — the Firebase alternative you can actually export. Google Colab still lends a T4 GPU session for free, the card that rents for real money anywhere else.
Diagrams humans read
Excalidraw sketches architecture in hand-drawn style and pastes the SVG straight into a PR description. Eraser.io's free tier turns plain text into sequence diagrams, no drawing required.
Free and open, this stack travels anywhere — including into Gaza, where developers keep shipping between power cuts on connections thinner than any CI pipeline you will ever curse. Remember who else is building when you push tonight.
Every stack hides an infrastructure layer nobody thanks until it breaks; travel has one too — passport renewals, NICOP paperwork, the visa file with its tabs and conditions. That unglamorous layer is our day job at HTG Travels, from the Sialkot desk: bring us the documents, and we keep the pipeline green.
