How to Check SIM Ownership and Block SIMs in Pakistan (PTA Guide 2025-2026)
A SIM registered on your CNIC that you never bought is not a small thing. In Pakistan it is the raw material for bank fraud, fake WhatsApp identities and microfinance loans taken out in your name through JazzCash or Easypaisa. The fix starts with knowing exactly what is registered against you — a three-minute job that costs less than a cup of chai.
Method 1: SMS to 668
Type your 13-digit CNIC with no dashes — 4220112345678, for example — and send it to 668. For about two rupees plus tax, the reply lists every active number on your CNIC with its operator. An unknown number in that list is identity misuse catching itself.
Method 2: cnic.sims.pk
Prefer a screen to SMS? Open cnic.sims.pk, enter your CNIC, solve the CAPTCHA, and you get the fuller picture: each number, its network, and its status. If the page sulks, drop any VPN and try a plain browser.
Method 3: the MyPTA app
MyPTA (Play Store and App Store) is the one worth keeping installed. Register once with your CNIC and a working number, and you get a dashboard of your SIMs, complaint filing, and IMEI blocking from your pocket. If you manage numbers for elderly parents, this is the tool.
Found a number that is not yours
Move fast, in this order:
- Visit your operator's franchise — Jazz, Zong, Ufone or Telenor — with the original CNIC, request the block, and complete the biometric verification there.
- If the franchise cannot help, call the operator helpline (Jazz 111, Zong 310, Ufone 333, Telenor 345) for a temporary block while you arrange the visit.
- Still stuck? File with PTA through its complaint portal or [email protected], quoting any reference numbers collected along the way.
For a deceased family member, franchises transfer a SIM on a death certificate and the heir's CNIC — better than letting a dead man's number live on somebody's ledger.
Phone lost or stolen
Dial *#06# for the IMEI — dual-SIM phones carry two, block both — then file at dirbs.pta.gov.pk under lost or stolen device, or use the PTA CMS app with the FIR copy. A blocked IMEI dies on every Pakistani network, which is cold comfort but real leverage against resale. Buying second-hand? The same portal tells you whether a handset is PTA-approved before cash changes hands.
