Los Angeles 2028: A Golden Promise Under the California Sun
Cricket returns to the Olympics after 128 years, and that alone has half of Pakistan planning a very late night in July 2028. LA28 runs July 14–30, the Paralympics follow August 15–27, and Los Angeles hosts for a third time after 1932 and 1984. Here is what matters from this side of the world.
The Games that build nothing new

Flag football and squash make their Olympic debuts, baseball and softball return, and cricket comes home to the program for the first time since 1900 — T20 format, six men's teams and six women's. The ICC pathway is still being finalised, but the expectation is automatic berths for top-ranked T20I sides, with the rest decided through regional qualifiers. The PCB has already begun planning. With Babar Azam, Shaheen Afridi and the generation coming behind them, Pakistan will enter among the favourites alongside India, Australia and England — and with Afghanistan and the West Indies rising, nothing will be given.
Why the no-building Games matter
Too many recent Olympics left host cities with debt and ghost stadiums. LA28 bets the other way: existing arenas, expanded transit, electric and hydrogen vehicle fleets, and travel emissions offset through verified reforestation and renewable projects. Los Angeles essentially rents its own city for a summer. If it works, every future bid copies it.
