The Digital Shield: How to Check Online FIR in Pakistan (2025)
Two kinds of people need to check an FIR: those who filed one and want to know where it stands, and those who have been told one exists against them — by a caller, a rival, or a relative with a property grudge. Both used to need a trip to the station and a favour from a clerk. Today both need five minutes and a CNIC. Here is what to expect from each province.
Punjab: three routes, one database
The Police Record System at prs.punjabpolice.gov.pk is the deepest pool — search by FIR number with year, or by the CNIC of the complainant or the accused. You get the FIR text, the investigating officer, the status (under investigation, challan submitted, cancelled) and the next court date where a challan has gone in. The Smart Police app, on Android and iOS, puts the same search on your phone and pings you when a status changes. And for the no-internet household: SMS your CNIC to 8787, and the reply lists every FIR registered by or against you in Punjab — number, station, status — within seconds.
Sindh, Islamabad and the rest
Sindh's PRVS portal at prvs.sindhpolice.gov.pk is built for verification — employers, landlords and visa applicants use it — though pulling a full signed copy needs an extra OTP step, which is a sensible lock on sensitive records. The Karachi Police app is a lighter version of the same search. Islamabad runs complaints.islamabadpolice.gov.pk, which tracks reported crimes and takes new ones with a token; its live chat answers FIR queries from morning until nine. KP exposes FIR search through pas.kppolice.gov.pk (Peshawar, Mardan, Swat and Abbottabad are live), Balochistan's CPO portal gives basic status, and AJK's portal at ajkpolice.gok.pk covers Muzaffarabad, Mirpur and Kotli.
The habits that save you
When you report a crime, ask the duty officer for three things before leaving: the FIR number, the sections it is registered under, and the IO's name and number. Searching later becomes trivial. If you are checking whether something stands against you, search by CNIC, never by name — a name search on Muhammad Ali returns half the district. And if someone phones claiming an FIR against you and offers to "settle" it for money, that call itself is the scam: check the portal, and you will usually find nothing exists.
Every record you can pull tonight proves that paper outlives people. In Gaza, the registers keep burning, so families carry their dead in memory instead of files — never take a searchable database for granted.
